We recently welcomed our sweetest second born into the family. Its been a delightful few months watching him grow from a newborn who snoozes most of the day, to a smiley little infant trying to make sense of his world.
During my pregnancy, I came across this Perth (Australia) based business called My Little Love Heart that makes cute products for little ones. It was the perfect timing as my little bub was in my belly and I was keeping an eye out for products that are well designed, aesthetically pleasing and crafted with good quality materials.
Luisa Figueroa the owner behind the brand sent me some lovely goodies a few months ago.
I am so excited that I can finally use them, as my little sweetheart transitions into the world of solids. The bib has lovely boat prints on them and is made with organic cotton bamboo. It is super soft and absorbent. It fits so snug around his neck and I’m sure it will be a great companion during meal times.
They also sent me a teething ring made with matching fabric. Some days my little one will play with the teething ring if he’s not nibbling on his toes.
The products stand out because of the unique prints: flamingoes, whales and swans! If you want to coordinate your little one’s wardrobe, you can buy matching burp cloths, bibs and teethers.
I had a little chat with the designer to learn more about the brand.
You live in Perth, but are originally from Columbia? What brought you here?
I was born in a small town called Villavicencio in Colombia, which is located three hours from the capital Bogota. I spent the first 18 years in Villavicencio until I moved to Bogota to study fashion design. After completing my degree in fashion design I decided to move to France to gain more exposure in the fashion industry. After a few years in France, I realized that to grow in the fashion industry I must improve my English. Hence, I decided to move to an English speaking country. I was torn between moving to the United Kingdom or Australia. Since my cousin lived in Australia, it was an easy choice for me to move to Perth.
Can you tell me a little about yourself and the family?
After moving to Perth I studied English. I met my now husband Mark soon after and after several years of our relationship we had a daughter Natalia. Mark and I were married in Colombia earlier this year and he now helps me with the administration and marketing of the business.
What inspires your designs?
My designs are inspired by my daughter Natalia. As a little baby she was prone to reflux so we were always changing out bibs and burp cloths after her constant vomits. I wanted to make something that would protect her and my clothing. I wanted something functional yet stylish.
I am also a huge fan of black and white and bright florals and colours. We are always looking out for unique and stylish designs as we notice that a lot of the bib companies use the same prints.
Which is your favourite baby clothing company and why?
My favourite baby clothing brand is French brand Petit Bateau. I love the style of their clothing, the soft materials they use and the combination of colours.
Can you tell me more about your experience in fashion design?
I started fashion design after leaving school when I was back in Colombia. Here I specialised in making dresses for special occasions, which included wedding dresses. I mainly worked with silk and loved the embroidery side of things, very different from what I am doing now.
What is next in your product line after teethers, burp cloths?
We are currently working on three new products, the first is a mini bow headband which is a very small version of our current baby headbands. We are also working on a face cloth. I would love to do a range of nursery decorations. However, at present I do not have the time to move ahead with this.
