As our lives get taken over by digital media, the old fashioned greeting card is often forgotten. Yet, receiving that paper greeting from a loved one, continues to warms hearts in these tech-crazy times. While they’re often tucked away in drawers, they bring a smile to your face when you see them many years later.
I recently stumbled upon the work of Adelaide (South Australia) based creative director Heide Hackworth, who does some lovely prints on paper. Her brand Earth Greetings is focused on printing her nature inspired designs on recycled paper.
A tree hugger herself, Heide works with environmentally friendly paper and chooses non-toxic printing. This focus on using green products came about after a lot of research. Heide spent a lot of time understanding the different ways in which her work, would not harm the environment. To learn more about how paper affects the environment, and steps to take to avoid this, click here.
Her greeting cards are not chlorine bleached, and contains paper stock which is made from post consumer waste. She also uses vegetable based inks, instead of the greenhouse gas emitting mineral oil inks.
Being a nature lover myself, I love how birds and trees find a way into her designs. Heide admits she loves waking up to the sound of the local kookaburras. I feel the same way. Waking up to birds chirping, often makes my day!
I’m sure her vibrant greeting cards will bring a smile to your face (she does other delightful stuff like gift wrapping paper and stationery too). Her products are available across 300 stockists in Australia and New Zealand, or you can shop for them online.
Heide has been kind to give two nature lovers a $40 voucher to buy anything from her store. All you need to do is email us at [email protected] and answer this question: Name one of the Australian animals featured on an Earth Greetings card.
