Off late, I have been browsing through children’s books shelves, and here’s another illustrator, that I have bookmarked as one of my favourites. Yes, it is Giselle Potter, from Hudson Valley (New York). Coming from a family of artists, she is super-talented. I love the distinctive folk-art style she uses to draw her characters – each one different in their own way, yet easily identifiable, as though they’re part of one big family.
She’s done mostly illustrations for other authors, but has a few books she’s written and drawn herself: The Year I Didn’t Go to School and Chloe’s Birthday…and me. I’m also waiting for her next title: ‘Tell Me What to Dream About’.
Giselle, of course, has her own favorite authors. Here are a few books she recommends:
“My grandmother had many old French copies of Babar that I still love. The Little Fur Family by Margaret Wise Brown is one of our family’s favorites. I also like Charlotte’s Web by E.B. White, and my daughters especially enjoyed the Little House on the Prairie series”
