I meet Ros Lee, a talented ceramic artist at the Dreamseeds Art Fest, organized by non-profit organization Club Rainbow. Ros was here to conduct a ceramic painting workshop for the beneficiaries of Club Rainbow, and some members of the public.
I had a great time volunteering at the event, and watching Ros teaching participants how to paint little doll-shaped vases. While her pieces use glaze on ceramics, for the workshop she used acrylic paint, which doesn’t require firing of the vase in the kiln. The collection below are pieces from her collection, and were not part of the workshop.
Ros who handcrafts these vases, says the shape draws influence from the Pierrot face (a clown in French). Ros created this vase design during her stay in Tokyo, drawing inspiration from Japanese artists who were influenced by French art. Totally love how the vase resembles the Japanese doll.
In the early days of her career, Ros worked in a Japanese home furnishing company, but later decided to go solo and launch her ceramic brand. She recently moved back to Singapore after a ten-year stint in Japan.
Her work is so minimalistic and delicate. I totally want a piece for my desk.
