Popbar Singapore: Gelato on a stick

November 2, 2016 By: Preeti Khichacomment

In Singapore weather, it is always a good time to eat ice-cream. So if you are looking for a new option, check out the recently opened Popbar, which serves gelatos and sorbettos on a stick. Located just off the escalator at the basement of the mall Plaza Singapura, Popbar is not hard to miss.

Behind those glass shelves you will find some cool flavours: peanut butter, green tea, hazelnut, chocolate, strawberry, mixed berries to name a few. “So far, the gelatos (milk and cream based) are more popular among men, and the sorbettos (fruit and water based ones) are a favourite among the ladies,” says the friendly Popologist who dishes out ice cream to customers.

Popbars are all freshly made in Singapore. Only the recipes come from the brand headquarters in New York. The pineapple and mango sorbetto, are all made from locally sourced fruit. I try the pineapple one and it is delicious! The slightly pulpy texture makes it feel like fresh homemade ice cream. I try a small chunk of the chocolate one too, which I definitely recommend. They are so flavorful and light.

Happily, the “ice-creams on a stick” don’t have any colouring or preservatives, and therefore can’t survive beyond three days.

You can drizzle your ice cream with chocolate sauces and sprinkles. The toppings on offer include almond, hazelnut, caramel popcorn, crushed waffle cone and chocolate sprinkles!

Shortly, they will be introducing a fruit based gelato (a combination of fruit and cream). And popShakes too. Yummy!

Note: Popbars are all gluten free
