Looking to take back a cool souvenir of Singapore? The latest to hit the shelves is Scribolo’s giant colouring poster, which is sure to keep the kids busy for hours. This is the first product to be launched by the company which proposes to focus on paper goods for children.
I meet the founder Nathalie at Gallery & Co (National Gallery museum) one afternoon to learn more about her recent venture. She comes along with illustrator Ziyue Chen, who she has partnered with, to bring her project to life.
I absolutely love the work of Ziyue who has so wonderfully captured the essence of Singapore through pen and ink. What makes it even more special is that the entire poster is hand drawn. The poster is large, and puts together all the different sights and sounds of Singapore so creatively. The hand drawing took a good two months to finish, not including a few months of planning.
Nathalie tells me how the poster hopes to depict the real Singapore, and not just the glitzy buildings that outsiders often remember Singapore for. So, that’s why along with Marina Bay Sands and Singapore Flyer, the hawker centres, Chinatown, Kampong Glam and traditional shophouses also feature on the poster.
The poster in black and white can honestly become a family art project. Kids have to colour the poster with felt pens. Requires a good effort, but the finished product brings back so many memories.
The only drawback I see is the size of the poster, which is quite large. With limited wall space, it would be shame to not have the space to put up this wonderful piece of art. Apparently, smaller sizes and other fun products like tablemats are in the works. Kudos!
Scribolo posters are available at many locations within Singapore.
